Career and Pathways

Queen Elizabeth College offers a wide range of pathways to support senior pupils in planning for life beyond school. These pathways include:

  • Further academic study at a tertiary institution.
  • Enlistment and service careers, encouraged through our Service Academy courses.
  • Vocational training, which can be studied during school or after leaving.

Pupils intending to follow an academic pathway should select Year 12 and 13 courses that lead to University Entrance. The College supports this through coordinated university visits and talks.

Pupils interested in the Armed Services are encouraged to enrol in Service Academy courses, available from Years 9–13.

Vocational pathways may be undertaken while at school or through full-time study after secondary schooling. Courses include (but are not limited to):

  • Construction – Health and Safety
  • Working at Heights
  • Risk Assessment
  • First Aid
  • Manual Handling
  • Forklift Licence

Queen Elizabeth College works with external providers to enable work experience opportunities with organisations such as Woolworths, The Warehouse, Red Cross, Mitre 10, and others.

There is also the option for pupils to study jointly with UCOL, provided equivalent courses are not already offered at the College.

Our Careers Advisor works closely with a range of external course providers to support pupil placements. These include Farming and Agriculture, Hair and Beauty, Design School, Achievement NZ, and Horizons.

Drivers Licence

In line with our motto, “Ready for Life,” the College supports pupils to gain appropriate driver licences. With the help of Talent Central, free driving lessons are available for pupils preparing for tests. The College also contributes 50% of licence costs to reduce financial barriers.

Pupils must have regular attendance and minimal pastoral incidents to be eligible to apply.
